My mom taught me how to make my own spaghetti sauce when I was a little girl and I have learned from her techniques to formulate my own recipe! This sauce is very savory and gives off a wonderful aroma of italian herbs while it’s simmering.
Homemade Pasta Sauce Recipe

For pizza sauce, add a whole 6oz can of tomato paste.
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp Earth Balance buttery spread
- 1 14oz can tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 14oz can diced tomatoes
- 1/2 cup diced onions
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
- 1/4 tsp granulated sugar or raw sugar
- 1/4 tsp each of salt and black pepper
- Pinch of cayenne pepper
Instructions
- In a large skillet on medium high, allow earth balance to melt. Saute diced onions for about 7 minutes, or until translucent.
- Add in the can of diced tomatoes. Stirring frequently, continue to saute for about 5 more minutes.
- Dump in the tomato sauce and tomato paste. Turn the heat down to medium-low (on a 1-10 scale, about a 3 or four)
- Add the seasonings and allow to simmer for about 10 more minutes.
- Finally, add in the salt, sugar, and cayenne. Pour over your favorite noodles, sprinkle with vegan mozzerella cheese, and enjoy!
