Spaghetti With “Meat” Sauce

I really love spaghetti sauce. When I was a kid, I remember that whenever my mom was making spaghetti, I would always eat some of the spaghetti sauce with a spoon while it was still cooking. Of course, she usually used ground beef in her sauce, so I figured out a way to make it vegan while still tasting just as amazing. Textured vegetable protein is what I use for my “meat”, however, any storebought frozen vegan ground beef crumbles will work just as well.

Instructions

  1. Prepare noodles according to the directions on the package. In a skillet, saute the onions in the earth balance until they begin to brown.
  2. Add the garlic and swirl around with the onions for a few minutes.
  3. Add the TVP and cup of water. Allow the TVP to rehydrate. Once it has done so, use a spatula to mix in the onions and garlic with the TVP.
  4. Add in the tomato sauce and stir. If you are using tomatoes, add those in as well.
  5. Add in the spices and add salt and pepper to your taste. Stir in and let simmer for about 5 more minutes.
  6. Before you add sauce to the noodles, one thing I like to do with my noodles is put butter, garlic, and salt on them. This is for added flavor and to make your noodles less sticky. Pour the sauce over your noodles. Enjoy!
